What You Need for Class
To ensure a smooth and productive training experience please arrive prepared with the following:
- Valid Driver’s License or State ID — A government-issued photo ID is required for enrollment verification and PERC card application purposes. Please ensure your ID is current and not expired.
- Pen or Pencil and Notebook — You will want to take notes throughout the course. Having your own writing materials ensures you can capture key information and refer back to it as you study.
- Appropriate Clothing — We recommend comfortable, practical clothing that allows freedom of movement. Certain hands-on modules such as arrest and control techniques will require you to move freely and comfortably.
- Duty Belt, OC Spray, and Handcuffs(if applicable) — If you are already working in a security role and use these items on the job, bring them along. Familiarity with your own equipment during training is encouraged.
- A Positive Attitude and Willingness to Learn — No prior experience is required. Come ready to engage, ask questions, and get the most out of your 20 hours of instruction. Snacks or a Meal(recommended) — Depending on your class schedule, you may want to bring food and water to keep your energy up throughout the session.

A Permanent Employee Registration Card (PERC) is a state-issued credential required by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) for anyone working as a private security officer in Illinois. Without a valid PERC card you cannot legally work as a security officer in the state. Our 20-hour Basic Security Training course meets all IDFPR requirements and prepares you to obtain your card and begin your career.

No prior experience is required. This course is specifically designed for individuals who are new to the security industry and want to build a strong foundation of knowledge and skills. All you need to bring is a valid Driver’s License or State ID, something to write with, and a commitment to learning.
This course covers the requirements for unarmed private security officers in Illinois. If your goal is to work as an armed security officer, additional training and licensing will be required beyond this course.
